What is a Golf Ball Drone Drop?
This is an entertaining spectacle that can be added to your next fundraising event. It can be a golf tournament or any open air event where there is a flat grass area.
Your participants remain fully engaged while ensuring you’re able to raise as much money as possible for your cause. The golf ball drone drop is exciting and great fun. It maximizes funds and makes for a great social media story.
Every ball has a unique sequential number and the numbers are sold to the participants. The balls are then dropped over a target and prizes are won based on where they land.
We've made the process as simple as possible to help you add a golf ball drone drop to your event and raise awareness for your cause.

FAQ's
How many balls can be dropped?
We can drop as many as 500 balls at a time, depending on the wind conditions and the type of drone used. However, we can cap the ball limit to any amount that works with your campaign (but we’d suggest a minimum of 200). We can also plan a ‘double drop’ if needed.
What are the minimum weather conditions for the drop?
A dry day with winds less than 15Km is ideal. We can operate in higher wind conditions but it very much depends on the location (and we want the balls to move as little as possible once they have landed!). We can use heavier ‘solid foam’ golf balls to help in windy conditions and we will do our best to compensate for the wind and the slope of the green when dropping the balls (slightly longer grass also helps to stop the balls moving too much). The drone pilot will assess the conditions and pick the best location prior to the event.
What happens if the ball drop is cancelled due to weather?
If we are unable to conduct the ball drop for any reason at the booked date and time, we will re-schedule it with you asap, and provide the full video shoot of the drop (and verification of the prize winning balls) for you to share on social media etc.
What are the legal requirements for a golf ball drop?
Flying a drone at a ‘publicly advertised event’ requires a Special Flight Operations Certificate (or SFOC) issued by Transport Canada. This outlines the safety and emergency procedures for the operation and will take some time to organize. Alternatively, we can also conduct the drop after the advertised event has ended, or at a site outside the event location. Contact us to discuss the best option for you.
What happens if the drone goes out of control?
The drone is programmed with a ‘geofence’, limiting its travel horizontally to a 30ft and vertically to a 50ft. There is also a flight termination system in place that allows us to kill the power instantly so it safely drops to the ground.
Do I need a lottery license to sell the balls for a prize?
Yes a lottery license is needed to operate a gaming event on Prince Edward Island.
A gaming event is any event where:
– a participant has to pay to play
– the winner is determined by chance
– the prize is greater than the cost to play

What kind of space is needed for the drop?
A flat, cut grass area with a minimum safety radius of 50ft is ideal. We will check all the location options as part of our site safety assessment before we proceed.
How high is the drone when the balls are dropped?
Typically, the drop will occur at around 30ft, depending on weather conditions.
Is it safe to drop golf balls from a drone?
We only use very lightweight practice golf balls which will not harm or damage anything when dropped. There are also safety procedures that we will have in place in order to operate the drone safely, and in accordance with any regulations.
What about liability insurance?
We hold a $1Million Liability Insurance policy for all drone operations.
